Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose
The Head Coach – Beach Volleyball is responsible for the general oversight, management, and leadership of all aspects of the Beach Volleyball program at the University of the Pacific. Duties include general management, coaching, recruiting, fundraising, public relations, and other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
  • Provides supervision and leadership of the day-to-day operations of the beach volleyball program and beach volleyball student-athletes.
  • Oversees coordination of team travel ensuring timely and cost-effective arrangements are made.
  • Manages team budget, strategizes and forecasts budgetary needs, develops and recommends annual budget, approves expenses within assigned authority.
  • Assesses needs, sets priorities for sport, and communicates to AD or Service Administrator annual goals or priorities.
  • Assists in the development of long-range planning of program.
  • Coordinates, plans, and attends all practice sessions for the program. Ensures the implementation of sound teaching practices and team strategies. Responsible for all aspects of strategies (both individual and team).
  • Monitors academic program of team’s student-athletes, and counsel’s students on problems ranging from academic through social when needed.
  • Responsible for all aspects of student-athlete conduct during intercollegiate contests. Serves as a role model for Pacific students through personal display of honesty, integrity, energy and positive work habits.
  • Collaborates with strength and conditioning staff on individual and team’s fitness training both in-season and out-of-season.
  • Leads in the strategizing, development and implementation of existing or new programs to increase, enhance, and sustain interest in Pacific’s Beach Volleyball program.
  • Attends fund-raising and other alumni/booster functions as requested; represents University at conferences and other meetings as appropriate.
  • Leads team’s recruiting efforts through developing and sustaining a network of contacts with coaches and others. Visits schools and families of prospective student-athletes. Collaborates with recruiting coordinator on extensive mass mailing program.
  • Serves as liaison between Enrollment Services and advises Athletic Director on matters of admission and financial aid awards; recommends changes if needed.
  • Meets regularly with Athletic Director to communicate recruiting needs and maintains updated recruiting priority list.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Two (2) years of full-time experience in the same/similar position is equal to one (1) year of completed post-high school education coursework).
  • Three (3) years of experience in coaching and/or playing experience in beach volleyball or in a related role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree, preferably in sport sciences, education, coaching, etc.
  • Experience recruiting and coaching at the NCAA Division I level.
  • Experience coordinating events and fundraising.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is performed in both a standard office environment as well as at sports venues. Work is performed during standard business hours, as well as during non-regular office hours to fulfill business needs. Extensive travel is required.
A valid driver’s license is required. Incumbents must also be able to meet the University’s fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserve the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range $66,560.00 - $89,082.00 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
