Travel may be required for this position-must be able to obtain a passport for travel

Growing Regional Opportunities for Work for the Deaf (Deaf GROW) is an externally funded project to support the development of Deaf employment opportunities in the Philippines and Viet Nam. The GROW Career Services Specialist position will report to the project director as an expert and advisor on Deaf employment issues. The position will focus on developing and implementing workshops, training programs, and related activities for employers and job seekers among partner organizations within the project. The GROW Career Services Specialist will gather and synthesize data from employers and Deaf community members on employment challenges, career outcomes, and design activities or interventions to support growth and improvement of employment opportunities. The position will also develop website content and reports for funding sponsor.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement classes, workshops, trainings, and seminars related to job-seeking skills and career advancement skills for Deaf job seekers.
  • Design and implement virtual and in-person classes, workshops, trainings, and seminars related to recruitment, hiring, retention, and career advancement of Deaf employees for business and industry employers.
  • Design website materials including but not limited to: conducting job searches, resume and cover letter writing, interview preparations, working with interpreters, self-advocacy skills for access, and on-the job skill development.
  • Initiate, enhance, and maintain relationships with project partners, current and prospective employers, and local deaf communities in each country.
  • Maintain liaisons with appropriate personnel throughout RIT/NTID, including the NTID Coop and Career Services and Office of Cooperative Education and Career Services.
  • Contribute to and co-lead department teams, committees, and projects as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in business, or related technical field, marketing, human resources (focus on staffing, recruiting, advising)
  • 3-5 years in business/industry, job development and/or placement, talent acquisition, career coaching, preferably related to human resources or business.
Skills:
  • Understanding deaf employment issues (skill development and job preparation, language competencies, accessibility, and policies) from the perspective of both a student, a university, and an employer.
  • Strong Written and Presentation Skills, Group facilitation/training skills, and strong
  • Strong Computer literacy skills including: MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, Slack, familiarity with job search engines
  • Knowledge of posting and using social media (X, Facebook, TikTok, etc.).
  • Culturally sensitive and able to adapt to a diverse situations
  • Strong organizational and detail follow-up skills
  • Ability to work with multiple different teams
  • Ability to communicate and interact with Business and Industry representatives at various levels
  • Travel to conduct employer development, training, and conference exhibiting and/or participation
  • American Sign Language communication and knowledge of Deaf culture.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in human resources, business, or a related field
  • Fluency in a sign language other than ASL
