Job Title:  Grounds & Nursery II (Lead)

Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

·      Develop and maintain the campus parking, roads and grounds. Schedule plan for sweeping, striping, crack sealing and improvements of parking lots, shrubs, trees, grass, irrigation, weed control, new project, including frequency of task and expectations.

·      Assist with the management of snow removal plan for the parking lots, parking structure and roads areas on campus.

·      Survey and apply environmental friendly methods to eliminate icy conditions from all northern exposed areas around campus. Assisting with contractors in the development and improvement of parking areas. Assist the Transportation Maintenance Supervisor with the daily supervision of all Grounds and Nursery I’s, lead and be a mentor to this unit.

·      Incident documentation, provide employee training, be a role model a team leader to the G&N I’s

·      Assist the Transportation Maintenance Supervisor with the daily supervision of all Grounds and Nursery I’s, as a work leader including assigning tasks, monitoring progress and workflow, checking tasks completion, scheduling work, and establishing work standards.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Two (2) years of experience in grounds and nursery, maintenance, landscaping, or a directly related occupation.

 

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·      CDL.

·      Experience in working with contractors.

·      Experience working in a team leader position .

·      Equipment - experience in operating Skid-steer, loaders, or tractors

·      Experience in snow removal, i.e. operating trucks with plows and ice melt sanders.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

·      Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.

·      Experience that demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with persons of diverse backgrounds

·      Excellent oral communication skills with the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.

·      Ability to communicate effectively in written form which includes the ability to check for typographical, grammatical and spelling errors

·      Troubleshooting and problem solving skills

·       Physical Ability

·      Computer knowledge.

·      Ability to interact with numerous groups and multiple levels of supervisors.

·      Strong commitment to safety.

·      Positive and strong can-do attitude and self-starter. 

·      Ability to repair and diagnose minor equipment failure.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The monthly salary range for this position has been established at: $3,768 - $4,371

The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
