Position Summary Information


General Information
This position supports the JMU visual identity for the college through the creation and design of digital assets to be used in social media, video boards, and website management as well as the design of print collateral for programs, recruitment, and promotional pieces. Working with the Director of Marketing and Communications and other team members, the graphic designer should be able to take direction from written or spoken ideas and convert them into designs that inspire and attract the target audience.
This is a part-time wage position working an average of up to 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year. Hybrid/remote work is a possibility for this position, with attendance on campus required for relevant duties, events, and meetings. Hours are subject to workload and can vary seasonally.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support JMU brand identity by staying current on creative direction and by working collaboratively with design and web team members at the university level
  • Collaborate, brainstorm, and strategize with College of Business (CoB) team members or clients for a wide range of materials that may include web pages, presentations, programming collateral, signage, internal communication, newsletters, and marketing materials
  • Utilize Adobe Suite to create and design various marketing materials for print and digital media
  • Maintain internal databases of designs and project assets
  • Stay up-to-date with JMU web and email template developments
  • Publish, edit, and proofread web content
  • Optimize content and imagery according to accessibility best practices and SEO guidelines
  • Work independently and cooperatively with the marketing team on multiple projects through the use of a project management system
  • Work collaboratively with other individuals across campus that manage CoB web content (University Career Center, Office of Global Engagement, University Marketing, The Graduate School, etc.) to ensure accuracy and timely updates
  • Exhibit organization, time management, and clear communications
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • A strong portfolio of design work demonstrating knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography, and print
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including attention to detail and time management

Additional Considerations
  • Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS)
  • Basic knowledge of HTML

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
