You might be a seasoned graphic designer with a knack for professional photo and video. Or a videographer/photographer with a passion for compelling, commercial graphic design. We’re looking for a highly creative, “all of the above” media professional to join our team.

University Communication & Marketing (UCAM) is seeking a talented Graphic Design & Multimedia Project Specialist. This is a dynamic and versatile role that combines graphic design expertise, photo/video shooting and editing skills, and project management capabilities. The ideal candidate is an imaginative professional with a passion for all things visual media; someone who can seamlessly transition between laying out marketing materials and graphics to editing video/photo that they captured earlier in the week.
As a vital member of our team, you will play a crucial role in creating compelling visual content, working on and/or managing creative projects, and enhancing the University's brand presence across multiple mediums. With a customer, brand and project-focus, this person will work closely with UNM’s marketing team and various University partners to produce a wide range of communication materials that speak to multiple audiences including prospective students, current students, alumni, and others.
The selected candidate will be tasked with working on a range of visual media projects spanning video editing and shooting to designing billboards and print advertisements; from event photography to event marketing material development and design. The selected professional may manage entire creative projects—from concept to creation. This person will liaise with professionals across the University, including the Director of University Marketing, and will produce highly creative, imaginative materials that reflect and enhance UNM’s well-established institutional brand.
We are seeking a dependable candidate who excels at self-management and thrives with minimal supervision and thoughtfully prioritizes, all while demonstrating a strong sense of ownership over assigned projects. They must have awareness of current visual media and marketing trends, be digitally savvy, and rely on experience and good judgement to problem solve and overcome project obstacles. This position requires strong familiarity with applicable Adobe Creative Suite programs including Illustrator, Indesign, Premiere and others.
This individual will report to the University Creative Services Manager and will work directly with the University Communication & Marketing Team, including other videographers, photographers and graphic designers. Additionally, this position may also work with other University units as well as vendors for UNM.
University Creative Services at UCAM provides professional graphic design and multimedia services to UNM departments and units. UCAM depends on effective collaboration and idea sharing to deliver innovative and attention-grabbing work. This position will support both Creative Services and UCAM. Individual must be able to interact well with a diverse faculty, staff and student population in a professional and productive manner, and create positive working relationships across campus and within UCAM.
This position will typically work within standard business hours, but some nights and weekends may be required to meet department or client needs.

This position is posted as a 1-year term position, with the possibility of extending depending on budget and allocated funds for additional fiscal years.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conceptualizes, plans, designs, and executes graphic design materials, to include multimedia concepts; may write and edit marketing or creative copy.
  • Executes or assists with video/photography media projects which may include event photography or videography, brand photography or videography, promotional photography/videography, portrait photography, and others.
  • Distills complex information into appealing and audience-appropriate visual representations.
  • May build proposals for clients and projects, then present concepts and develop projects through completion.
  • Works to thoughtfully design and develop materials within the parameters of UNM’s established brand style and targeted campaigns.
  • May create and produce digital content that utilizes video or animated graphics.
  • Participates in the design of video graphics, titles, music, or creative look of multimedia assets; makes editorial decisions regarding assembly of information, illustrations, and content.
  • Edits and proofreads content to ensure accuracy and adherence to brand guidelines
  • Uses independent judgment to manage and impart information to a range of clientele and/or media sources.
  • Identifies, selects, and coordinates vendors for select appropriate projects; works directly with vendors to provide print-ready files on behalf of clients and UCAM.
  • Proofs content and supports proofing for accuracy and adherence to appropriate production and content standards.
  • Completes post-production (editing) of photo and video files.
  • Maintains knowledge of marketing strategies, processes, and available resources
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Ability to manage concurrent, long term projects;
  • Well versed skills in graphic design and visual media production, current trends, and content development strategies;
  • Excellent communication, writing, strategic thinking and planning skills with strong problem-solving skills;
  • Advanced writing skills with the ability to create clear, concise, and compelling copy that aligns with UNM brand voice and target audience;
  • Demonstrated project management expertise, with a detail-oriented perspective, and ability to manage several projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and expectations;
  • Motivation and possession of a strong desire to advance The University of New Mexico and our goals;
  • Ability to assume responsibility and ownership of their work and related deadlines;
