Job Summary:

The Grant Development Specialist position will contribute to a portfolio of grant development related services and resources offered the College of Agricultural & Life Sciences (CALS).
This position will target the specialized needs of CALS faculty by developing and implementing a suite of programs and services designed to increase the competitiveness of proposals submitted for intramural and extramural funding, focusing on larger trans-disciplinary grants. The position requires research development content knowledge-including grant writing and editing skills, experience with faculty research mentorship/development activities, and strong communication skills. Specific on-the-job training and mentoring will be provided to the Grant Development Specialist to allow the development of a deep knowledge of nursing science and interdisciplinary research programs. The Grant Development Specialist position reports to the Assistant Dean for Research.
As the Grant Development Specialist, you will be responsible for shepherding teams to develop funding proposals from a variety of sources, including government agencies, foundations, and other grant-making institutions.
-Act as the project manager for a portfolio of larger grant projects including initial shepherding of project team, assisting with proposal submission, tracking application deadlines, and maintaining records of submitted and awarded grants.
-Coordinate the development and preparation of grant applications through clearly written compelling, and persuasive grant proposals to secure funding from various sources.
-Collaborate with administrators, faculty, and staff to gather information, data, and budget details necessary for grant proposals, facilitate terms, and provide guidance related to all grant proposals and awards.
-Identify potential funding sources and maintain a database of grant opportunities in support of strategic University initiatives.
-Design, develop, and implement grant development programmatic activities tailored to CALS faculty to improve their success in grantsmanship.

Responsibilities:
Works directly with principal investigator(s) and/or research program director(s) to carry out research administrative functions related sponsored grants, agreements, or award management (proposal preparation through closeout).
  • 20% Serves as a liaison and expert resource for researchers regarding the interpretation of policy and procedure related to overall sponsored project management
  • 30% Works collaboratively with researchers to prepare non-technical materials for proposals, drafting contracts or agreements for review, and/or advising award setup
  • 10% Leads researchers in the preparation and/or maintenance documentation, financial management, and/or reporting requirements related to sponsored grants, contracts, or agreements
  • 10% May identify funding opportunities and disseminate to principal investigators
  • 5% Maintains and monitors grants and contract budgets
  • 5% Assures compliance with grant, contract or agreement requirements and determine whether objectives are being met
  • 20% Serves as pre-grant specialist to perform review of assembled proposals prior to submission

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in any STEM field


Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
-1 year of experience working with grant proposals or grant administration (e.g., working with common elements of grant proposals such as budget, budget justification, statements of work, etc.; gather information; facilitate terms)
-Knowledge of, or professional experience with, searching for and identifying funding opportunities (e.g., use online sources to find funding such as Grants.gov, FedBizOpps, Pivot, Grant Forward, SPIN, and GrantSelect; determine project and funding alignment; facilitate contact with sponsors)
-Project management (e.g., plan/develop projects; facilitate/monitor project progress; troubleshoot obstacles; organizing complex tasks; implementing and adhering to deadlines; maintaining records)
-Reviewing and editing research documents, awards, and/or contracts
Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience working on research projects at an institution of higher education
-Knowledge of management with sponsored programs in an institution of higher education
-Budget-building and budget-management experience


Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%
The selected candidate may choose to work remotely from an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $65,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The anticipated salary range for this position is $65,000 - $80,000. However, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
