The Computer Science Department seeks applicants for the Graduate Program Coordinator.

The Graduate Program Coordinator will coordinate and manage all aspects of the Computer Science Graduate Program (CS) and the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Informatics (IGPI) - including approximately 100 students in the CS program and 30 students in the IGPI program. This includes managing the application process, ensuring compliance with current policies and procedures, and managing the qualifying exams, comprehensive exams and proposal defense process. The Graduate Program Coordinator will also update graduate program materials, maintain databases, and provides information as requested. As part of this position the candidate will provide support to the Directors of Graduate Studies for CS and IGPI and will acts as a liaison of the department with the Graduate College, the Office of Admissions (for the graduate program) and the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize, coordinate, and monitor graduate CS and Informatics degree programs.
  • Serve as liaison and primary administrative contact with prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, University administrators, and the public making inquiries concerning Computer Science and Informatics graduate programs.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the graduate admissions process, including correspondence with applicants.
  • Assist students in resolving problems arising from lack of compliance with departmental and University rules and policies.
  • Collect and analyze data regarding graduate admissions, admitted students, graduation statistics, retention and placement of students, and other aspects of the graduate programs.
  • Assist in the progress of matriculated students through their graduate degree programs. Including course registration, examination paperwork, thesis submission, and graduation paperwork.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location .

Education Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and related experience is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in computer software applications, especially spreadsheets database systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to multitask and manage multiple cycles of deadlines and processes simultaneously.


Desired qualifications

  • Some knowledge of University Policies, procedures and regulations is desirable.
  • Some (6 months to 1 year) administrative experience.
