Summary of Job Duties:
Founded in 2002, the Honors College serves over 4,100 high-achieving students enrolled in undergraduate academic programs across the University of Arkansas. The graduate assistant works with the Associate Dean of Enrollment, assisting with a variety of recruitment and public relations initiatives for the Honors College. The graduate student will develop communication skills and broaden their understanding of the competitive arena of high-achieving student recruitment. The graduate student will also play an important role in advancing student success within the Honors College.
In addition, the position offers a broad overview of academic affairs, undergraduate research, study abroad, and competitive post-graduate fellowships. The individual will interact several units on campus, including the individual honors programs in the academic colleges, Undergraduate Admissions, University Housing, and New Student Orientation.
A valid driver’s license and a willingness for some recruitment travel are both essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, organization, initiative, teamwork experience, and a commitment to academic excellence within the honors community. Candidates must also be flexible with their work schedule, especially since the Honors College offers several programs both in the evening and on the weekends.
Key duties include:
80% - Honors College Recruitment
Meeting with prospective students and families from a variety of backgrounds, either through campus visits or virtual meetings.
Present on behalf of the Honors College to a variety of different audiences both on campus and off campus.
Engage with current UA students who are eligible to apply to the Honors College based on their academic record in college.
Assist with the planning and/or implementation of all Honors College recruitment events, including Honors College Convocation, Fellowship Interview Day, Discovery Day, Path Program Interview Weekend, and others.
Review applications for both endowed fellowships and Path Scholarships.
20% - General Honors College Administration
Review and edit blog entries submitted by current honors students.
Assist the fellowship financial manager with current fellow administration and
documentation.
Assist with events for current UA honors students when needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education (conferred before the Fall 2024 semester)
Enrollment as a graduate student at the University of Arkansas Fayetteville campus
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in public speaking
Previous experience working for a college admissions office or participating in new student recruitment activities
Previous experience as a student in an undergraduate honors program or similar academic enrichment experience
Previous student leadership experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work well individually and within teams
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
