Job Description Summary
In support of the Student Affairs Learning Outcomes, the Department of Student Engagement assists students in finding connection and community at Chapman University. The Graduate Assistant for Fitness Center Facility Management assists with overseeing the daily operations of the Julianne Argyros and Henley Hall Fitness Centers. The Graduate Assistant is a member of the Department of Student Engagement and the Division of Student Affairs. Specific responsibilities include:
Responsibilities
Supervision
  • Assist Facility Manager with supervision and management of student staff who oversee the Julianne Argyros Fitness Center and Henley Fitness Center.
  • On-site supervision responsibilities may include managing employee hiring, facility audio/visual resources, training & development, accountability and scheduling.
  • Provide assistance with management of Doti-Struppa Rock Wall when needed.
  • Meet 1-1 with Lead Fitness Center Assistants weekly.

Group Exercise Programs
  • Assist Facility Manager with supervision and management of fitness session leaders in the Henley Fitness Center.
  • Coordinate a spin and cycle studio program with a weekly schedule of group exercise sessions.
  • Along with graduate assistant for fitness and recreation programs, co-manage group exercise sessions such as Yoga, Zumba, Kickboxing, Barre, and Pilates.
  • Coordinate special events related to the Henley Fitness Center and group exercise sessions.
  • Supervision responsibilities may include managing employee hiring, training & development, accountability and scheduling.
  • Meet with fitness session leaders monthly.

Facility Operations
  • Provide on-site supervision of daily operations when working.
  • Assist Facility Manager with facility maintenance, inventory and safety checks related to Fitness Centers.
  • Coordinate Fitness-On-Demand audio/visual service in the group exercise rooms.
  • Collaborate with off-campus vendors and on-campus partners including Institutional Event Management, Facility Management, Custodial Services, Media Services, Sodexo, Risk Management, faculty, etc. to operate facility in an efficient manner.

Facility Services
  • Coordinate and oversee facility resources and services for students, including a towel service and sports equipment checkout.
  • Develop and grow new resources and services for students in the Fitness Center such as small group workouts and personal training.

Meet weekly with Facility Manager for Wellness and Recreation
Complete other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Desire to gain knowledge of student development theory and issues relevant to higher education.
  • Ability/willingness to work some nights/weekends.
  • Commitment to teamwork, customer service, collaboration, and providing service to students. Ability to exercise initiative and work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills working with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the University. Ability to use tact and diplomacy and to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to prioritize duties when faced with interruptions, distractions, and fluctuating workload. Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Professional and confident demeanor when delegating and holding others accountable.
  • Ability to work with budgets, including the oversight and reconciliation of expenses.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; strong editing and proofreading skills.
Desired Qualifications
Desired Qualifications:
  • Previous experience, at the graduate or undergraduate level, working directly with fitness and/or recreation programs preferred.
  • Previous experience, at the graduate or undergraduate level, working directly with union and/or fitness facilities.
  • Knowledge of effective health and wellness strategies preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel preferred.
