We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Graduate Admission Counselor (Student Services Professional II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Operations and Enrollment Management, the Graduate Admission Counselor guides prospective graduate students from their first inquiry about the college, through the application process until they enroll in classes by collaboratively coordinating the outreach, recruitment, admissions, and yield efforts for the College of Business and Economics Graduate Programs Office. The Graduate Admission Counselor leads/assists Graduate Programs outreach, recruitment, application processing, and enrollment efforts for all graduate business programs. The Graduate Admission Counselor is responsible for reviewing application documents to determine whether a candidate meets specific admissions criteria for a graduate program in the college, as well as if the candidate meets all pre-requisite course requirements for the graduate program to which the candidate applied. Performs initial outreach communication to all leads generated from outside sources (e.g. College/grad fairs, email campaigns, inquiry forms, etc.), ensuring prospective applicants have the necessary information about programs of interest. Promotes the programs to prospective applicants and guides them through the application process, following up as needed to ensure application submission. Participates in and assists with planning on and off-campus recruitment, application workshops, and other promotional events, which includes counseling and evaluating prospective student needs, thus making judgments to recommend solutions to problems and changes in program procedures. The Graduate Admission Counselor assists walk-in students, conducts program admission meetings, and phone/video conferences. Is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with prospective students, community partners, alumni, and other special constituents related to recruitment and admission. The Graduate Admission Counselor shall collect and disseminate information related to financial aid and scholarship opportunities. Develops and presents to interested groups regarding College of Business and Economic graduate admission procedures. Is responsible for staying apprised of program application, admission, and evaluation changes and updates. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or a related field. A masters degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational management, research, and interview techniques. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews, and advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to reason logically and use initiative in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and of the overall organization.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of one year of intervention programming and development experience. Previous experience advising a student population with the ability to advise students individually and in groups. Master's in Higher Education, Counseling, or Psychology.
Completion of a formal training program in academic records evaluation or one year of academic records evaluation experience or any 12-month combination of training and experience related to academic records evaluation. Knowledge of the format and interpretation of course records and transcripts of institutions of higher education. Knowledge of authenticating course credits and comparing records of differing formats, such as foreign records. Knowledge of campus curriculum requirements for majors, minors, terminal degrees, and special program designations, as well as knowledge of campus resource guidelines for making determinations using various criteria. Ability to comprehend and interpret complex regulations or requirements and apply them during the evaluation process. Ability to maintain resources that documents and update criteria. Ability to explain criteria and evaluations to others. Ability to make accurate records, organize work to meet deadlines, and safeguard the confidentiality and security of records.
