Work Schedule Summary
Work schedule will vary depending on work load. This position will be scheduled to work as early as 6:00am and as late as 9:30pm, as well as weekends and holidays. Multiple positions will be hired, there is opportunity to work through the summer until the course closes for the season in the fall.
Starters/Marshals will be asked to work at least one shift per week. Shifts will usually last from 9:00am-4:00pm Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Position Responsibilities


Position Summary
Under the direction of the Head Golf Professional, the Starter/Marshal performs duties including:
  • Greeting and checking in golfers for tee times
  • Organizing groups for proper pace of play
  • Communicating course rules, etiquette and regulations
  • Monitoring play on the course to assist golfers
  • Resolving on-course situations and rulings
  • Enforcing policies like dress code and outside alcohol rules
  • Supporting outside staff with tasks such as supplying golfers, clearing debris and minor maintenance
  • Providing course knowledge to enhance the player experience
  • Other duties as assigned

Responsibilities


Job Duty Function Monitors first tee and golf course by:
Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Greeting and checking in golfers in a friendly manner as they arrive for their tee times;
  • Organizing groups and sequence player assistants onto the course to maintain proper pace of play;
  • Communicating all course rules, etiquette guidelines, and any temporary regulations to players;
  • Monitoring pace and flow of play by driving a cart around the course;
  • Assisting golfers on the course with any needs, questions or issues that arise;
  • Enforcing club policies and monitor for outside alcohol brought to the first tee or on the course;
  • Supporting the outside service staff by distributing supplies, clearing debris, raking bunkers or performing other minor course maintenance;
  • Providing golfers with knowledge about the course layout, conditions, hazards etc.;
  • Enhancing the overall player experience through customer service and course management;
  • Communicating with the pro shop staff regarding groups, issues or other course operations;
  • Monitoring weather conditions and ensure proper precautions when needed.

Position Qualifications


Required Qualifications
  • Duties of this position require successful candidates to be at least 19 years of age.
  • Experience in providing customer service and building customer relations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating a cash register
  • Member of PGA or enrolled in PGM program and has passed PAT
  • Experience opening and closing cash register daily; working in a golf course pro shop
  • Knowledge of golf equipment rental
  • Ability to work spring, summer, and fall when the course is open
  • Good knowledge of the game of golf
  • Possess good mathematical skills
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in stressful situations
  • Experience safely operating a golf cart
