Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The University of Maryland, School of Public Health (SPH) is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual for the position of Assistant Clinical Professor (professional-track) and Director of our new Global Health Undergraduate Program. The program will be housed in the Maryland Institute for Applied Environmental Health (MIAEH) which is scheduled to transition into a new department comprising programs in global, environmental and occupational health. The successful candidate will bring expertise in any global health subdiscipline (e.g., water, sanitation and hygiene; climate change and health; maternal and child health; food safety and security; poverty; transboundary air and water pollution; social determinants of health; environmental justice; non-communicable diseases; pandemic preparedness, etc.).
The successful candidate will direct the new Global Health Undergraduate Program, assuming leadership, administrative, teaching and supervisory responsibilities for this new major. Specific roles will include leading the development of the new program; providing visionary leadership; directing day-to-day operations; growing collaborative relationships with our academic partners, as well as local and international organizations; creating and chairing the Global Health Undergraduate Program Committee; participating in hiring future faculty members, advisors, coordinators and graduate research assistants, and supervising the growing team; managing the course scheduling process; participating in recruitment and student engagement activities; collaboratively working to refine the global health curriculum; establishing mechanisms for ongoing program assessment and evaluation; preparing brief annual program reports; managing the program budget and overseeing administrative processes; and advancing diversity, equity, inclusion within the program. This individual will also be responsible for teaching up to four undergraduate courses throughout the year. For candidates interested in engaging in global health research, there is the potential to reduce teaching efforts in order to allow time for global health-related research activities.
Salary and appointment date: This will be a 12-month professional-track position at the rank of Assistant Clinical Professor and Director, with promotion potential to Associate Clinical Professor and Clinical Professor over time. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University of Maryland offers a comprehensive benefits package. Appointment ideally begins in early Spring 2024.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a PhD or related doctoral degree in global health, public health or a closely related field. The successful candidate will possess transferable administrative skills and be adept at written, oral and interpersonal communication; transparency; collaboration; problem solving; listening; and interacting constructively with diverse audiences. The successful candidate should also demonstrate experience working on and/or administering international projects, and/or global health-related programs; a commitment to higher education and undergraduate students; teaching experience using inclusive pedagogies; and a commitment to working with a diverse body of students in a mentoring role.
