Job Summary

This position is responsible for managing the Geographic Information System (GIS) functions within the Physical Facilities department, managing the Campus Mapping Committee, and maintaining and developing the online BYU Campus Map. This position involves leading a team of GIS professionals including student interns to design, develop, implement, and maintain enterprise GIS servers, GIS databases, maps, applications, and other related software systems. The GIS Manager will also be responsible for providing technical expertise to support Physical Facilities operations and decision- making processes, as well as ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and security of GIS data.

  • Manager: Chair the Campus Mapping Committee

  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Support

 

Education/Experience

 

     Minimum education/experience required:   

  • Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geospatial Science & Technology or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience in GIS development, management, administration, and map creation
  • GIS experience with the Esri technology suite including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online
  • Database experience including understanding of basic database management and SQL

 

     Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geospatial Science & Technology or equivalent
  • 10 years of experience in GIS development, management, and administration
  • Experience with infrastructure and utilities management
  • Proficient use of the CAD software program AutoCAD or AutoCAD Civil 3D by Autodesk
  • Proficient in GIS programing and system automation

  • Excellent verbal and written communication including in-person, phone, web-based, email, proposals, and technical documents
  • Strong project management and team leadership skills
  • Train others to use GIS, perform processing and achieve results
  • Collect, create, organize, and manage geographic data and maps
  • Perform geoprocessing and geospatial analysis
  • Strong ability to solve problems and to think analytically
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver projects on time
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Additional Comments

  • Balancing the various responsibilities, assignments, and tasks that this position requires in a timely manner
  • Ensuring that all projects conform to Physical Facilities specifications, local codes & ordinances and to the expectations of the BYU Administration
  • Keeping the campus GIS and campus maps updated and current with new and ongoing construction improvements
  • Resolving unforeseen problems and/or issues as quickly as possible without delaying the progress of projects

Approximate Starting Salary: $77,500 - $100,500
