Job Summary
The Kentucky Geological Survey (KGS), a publicly supported research center within the University of Kentucky (UK), is recruiting a Geologist I with a bachelor’s degree in geology. Key position responsibilities include describing mineral rock cores with critical mineral potential, performing quality assurance and control tasks to ensure data accuracy and discoverability, and contributing to the critical minerals research and geologic data preservation communities. This position is grant funded and will report to the KGS Earth Analysis Research Library, located north of Lexington about ten miles from the main UK campus.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Attention to detail
QA/QC for accuracy of specimen information
Stratigraphy and Petrography
Familiarity with Kentucky Geology: emphasis on sedimentary rocks and the Kentucky Mineral Districts.
