The GCU Golf Course in Phoenix endeavors to enhance the local community with upscale, yet affordable, recreation. The golf course provides a learning environment for GCU business students and serves as the home for GCU Golf student-athletes. Our mission is to position the former Maryvale Golf Course as a community and university asset.

Grand Canyon University Golf Course is seeking a part time Assistant Golf Pro. This role will assist the Head Golf Professional with day-to-day operations of the Pro Shop, and responsible for preparation, coordination, and execution of all daily rounds.


  • Assist with golfer check-in and fee collection; control and manage play.

  • Assist in tournament operations and weekly events including planning, pre-tournament contracts, post- tournament billing, promotion, course set-up, preparation, scoring, prize distribution, and follow up.

  • Maintain an attractive and orderly appearance in and around the golf shop.

  • Provides a welcoming and responsive environment to members and their guests; reserves tee times, books lessons, answers phones, and maintains a friendly, positive, helping, and motivated attitude at all times.

  • Along with golf staff, conducts Pro Shop retail operations; sells, displays, promotes, and merchandises inventory. Assists with scheduling and promoting demo days and trunk shows. Makes recommendations on product and seasonal buying plan. Ships product and manages special orders. Possesses a thorough understanding of the point-of-sale system and helps to maintain it under the direction of the Head Golf Professional.

  • Performs daily opening and/or closing procedures, as designated. Compiles and reviews daily work for completeness and accuracy. At PM shift close accurately completes POS end of day processing.

  • Assists with inventory management; conducts monthly inventories, prepares orders and returns. Accurately records, reviews, and approves vendor invoices and credit memos. Minimizes shrink by following inventory control procedures.

  • Along with golf staff, responsible for the correct appearance, organization, and cleanliness of the shop and stock room areas, equipment, and fixtures. Reports deficiencies and maintenance concerns. Troubleshoots computer issues with tech support as directed.

  • Oversee tee sheet functions and manage player reservations. Ensure accurate accounting for each type of golf round.

  • Help expedite play on each course, and coordinate golf course logistics with service area, maintenance, and food and beverage staff.

  • Assist in golf tournament coordination and execution.

  • Be familiar with member preferences and make best effort to ensure member satisfaction.

  • Be knowledgeable about golf shop retail hard and soft goods and promote merchandise.

  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, including forecasting and review of all golf revenues and expenses on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

  • Minimum 1 year experience in golf operations.

  • Trained in First Aid, CPR & AED or able to complete training needed on own time within 30 days of employment.

  • Must be able to obtain Maricopa County Food Handler’s Card at one’s own expense prior to beginning of employment.

  • Previous sales and/or customer service experience preferred.

  • Must successfully pass a background check.

  • Must be available to work anytime within the hours of 5:00am-7:00pm, any of the 7 days of the week (may be subject to change based on business need).

  • Ability to be on your feet for long periods of time (approximately 50% of shift). Professional image at all times through appearance and dress.

  • Structure and function of all clubhouse and golf course.

  • Basic mathematical ability, ability to count and reconcile cash.

  • OSHA requirements.

  • Fire extinguishers and any other emergency equipment needed to ensure personal and guest safety.

  • Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations.

  • MS Office Suite proficiency.
