Job Summary

1. Work with students who are not currently in a biology/BTE/MCB major but who are seeking information about switching to one these majors. (15%)
2. Gather information from University College and other School/Departmental advisors regarding students who are planning to switch to a major within the School of Biological Sciences. Work with the appropriate School advisor to help determine a course of action for these inquiries (10%)
3. Act as the preliminary point of contact for non-ISU students who reach out with questions regarding attending ISU and joining one of the School of Biological Sciences majors (10%)
4. As necessary and appropriate sit in on, and participate in, meetings held by the School of Biological Sciences advisors with students currently in the major, with regard to academic planning (5%)
5. Hold weekly Admissions scheduled visit times for prospective students. Work with other School of Biological Sciences advisors on other large Admissions events (Open House, Redbird Days etc.). Help identify and train current School of Biological Sciences majors who would like to volunteer at Admissions events (15%)
6. Assist in documenting both current student advising notes, as well as, documenting contacts with potential students within the appropriate software systems (20%)
7. Working with the School of Biological Sciences advisors to conduct data analytics, override request monitoring and communication. Utilizing Cognos and other tools help to determine capacity requirements for introductory sequence courses as well as service classes such as BSC 181/BSC 182 and BSC 160. (20%)
8. Process and send appropriate communications to those applying to School of Biological Sciences majors and minors (5%)


Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$1338/month


Required Qualifications

1. Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook which can be found at http://hr.illinoisstate.edu/downloads/GA_Handbook.pdf
2. Must be a degree seeking graduate student at Illinois State University in the fields of College Student Personal Administration, Education, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Business Administration


Preferred Qualifications

1. Ability to complete assignments and projects with limited supervision
2. Take initiative, manage multiple projects, and have excellent organizational skills
3. Software: Microsoft Word, Excel required.
4. Experience with or ability to learn Campus Solutions and COGNOS
5. Availability to work on campus during normal business hours
6. Must adhere to confidentiality related to student, faculty, staff, and administrative issues.


Work Hours

M-F with occasional evening or Saturdays for Admissions events
