The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for FUSE Student Researchers in Physics and Astronomy on the Dahlonega campus. Students will perform observations at the North Georgia Astronomical Observatory using the echelle spectrograph, calculations, and computer simulations under the guidance and mentoring of faculty.  The research assistant will join the FUSE program to conduct focused and meaningful research, scholarly and creative activities alongside a faculty researcher from June 3 - July 26, 2024.

  • Learning the use of the telescope and the spectrograph.
  • Learning basic data reduction using commercial software.
  • Observe and take spectra of NGC 7027 and IC 5517. Analysis and reduction of Spectra.
  • Run preliminary simulations with Cloudy software to compare with the spectra.
  • Implement and predict krypton ions emission data in PN.
  • Write up results. Prepare poster.
