The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for FUSE Student Researchers - Documentary Editor on the Gainesville campus. This position will work with a faculty film director to edit a 12-minute film using provided video and audio footage with supplementary media. The Student Documentary Editor will organize, transcribe, and categorize footage; work with faculty to structure the film's plot and edit clips into scenes and sequences; discern the narrative voice of the film and develop a unique visual design for the project; and complete a final cut of the film for screening to an audience. The research assistant will join the FUSE program to conduct focused and meaningful research, scholarly and creative activities alongside a faculty researcher from June 3 - July 26, 2024.

  • Review, organize, and catalog video, audio, and photo files in Premiere Pro.
  • Research comparable documentary storytelling approaches; develop an original point-of-view for the film¿s edit.
  • Edit scenes and sequences using video and audio files.
  • Transcribe video and audio interviews and write a structural blueprint for the film¿s edit. 
  • Gather supplementary media (music, titles, stock video).
  • Collect and organize feedback from faculty and test screening audiences.
  • Communicate with faculty director and attend scheduled meetings and workshops sessions.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency with digital video footage and non-linear video and audio editing.
  • Ability to organize a post-production workflow. 
  • Evidence of time management skills.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Current UNG student not graduating before December 2024.
  • Completion of at least one course in film & digital media post-production.
  • Completion of at least one video project (narrative or documentary) as a video or sound editor.
