The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a FUSE Student Researcher in Chemistry/Biochemistry on the Dahlonega campus. The position reports to the principal investigator of a FUSE funded grant project. The student will work in a laboratory environment preparing solutions and testing private well-water samples for bacteria and heavy metals. The research assistant will join the FUSE program to conduct focused and meaningful research, scholarly and creative activities alongside a faculty researcher from June 3 - July 26, 2024.

  • Preparing water samples for analysis.
  • Analyzing water samples for bacteria and heavy metals.
  • Collecting data and performing data analysis.
  • Writing homeowner reports.
  • Preparing a scientific poster and/or document.
  • Promoting safety in the laboratory and in the field.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic chemistry lab equipment.
  • Skilled in the use of MS Office including MS Excel.
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Current UNG student not graduating before December 2024.
  • Preference will be given to a chemistry major who has completed CHEM 1212/L.
