The Furniture Repair Technician works to repair furniture, assists with furniture installs, repairs and installs window coverings, and assists the University Housing Upholsterer. We are looking for individuals with excellent customer service skills, who are open to learning, and know how to use sewing equipment and furniture repair tools. This is a great position for a someone with a background in Upholstery and/or repairs who wants to learn more!

Responsibilities:
Inspects, maintains, and repairs basic equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. Assists with construction, and operational maintenance as needed.
  • 35% Utilizes equipment to repair and maintain standard machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
  • 10% Performs routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
  • 15% Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures
  • 15% Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries to appropriate entities under general supervision
  • 5% Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed
  • 10% Inspects, maintains, and installs furniture and window coverings
  • 10% Uses industrial machines such as commercial stitching/sewing machines, foam cutters, and hemmers to measure, cut, and reupholster furnishings.

Tasks:
  • Communicates with staff to address needs and service requests.
  • Transports supplies and furniture in efficient manner
  • Provides support to the University Housing Upholsterer.
  • Completes work in occupied or vacant living and dining spaces.
  • Demonstrates and role models exceptional customer service.
  • Provides support and assists as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency.

Qualifications:

Required:
- 1 year of furniture repair, upholstery, or related experience.
Preferred
- 2 or more years of furniture repair, upholstery, or related experience.


License/Certification:

Preferred
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards


Work Schedule:

6:30am-3pm (Monday-Friday) preferred, but there is flexibility, schedule will be set upon hire

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $22.00 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications
This is a full-time appointment. The starting hourly wage is $22.00 or higher based on qualifications and includes a competitive retirement and benefits package.
