Full-time Research Assistant / Lab Manager

Job Summary:

Reporting to Prof. Michelle Greene, the research assistant will aid in the management of the Visual Cognition Lab, including training and compliance, ordering supplies, scheduling human participants, collecting and analyzing data, and assisting in scientific dissemination.

Job Description:


The Visual Cognition Lab, directed by Dr. Michelle Greene, is housed in the Department of Psychology at Barnard College. It investigates the time course of visual perception, using behavioral, EEG, and computational methods. The lab is seeking applications for a full-time lab manager. The Lab Manager's role will support a five-year grant funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to investigate the role of information overload in visual scene understanding. The project integrates natural scene statistics, psychophysics, and EEG methods. The Lab Manager will support the PI and work with undergraduate researchers. The position is expected to be renewed on a 12-month basis for 4 years, dependent upon performance. The start date is flexible, but preferably Summer 2024.
 
This is a great position for a recent college graduate who would like to gain further experience in a full-time research setting before applying to graduate school. A two-year commitment is highly preferred.  The position is not appropriate for those with advanced degrees.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Training student research assistants in experimental procedures.

  • Maintaining consent forms and CITI training certificates.

  • Ordering supplies.

  • Scheduling human participants for behavioral and EEG experiments.

  • Collecting data using behavioral and EEG paradigms.

  • Assisting in data analysis.

  • Assisting in dissemination (making and presenting posters and talks), writing and editing scientific manuscripts.

  • Attending lab meetings and helping fellow students as necessary.

  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as needed.

Annual Stipend: $52,000

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:


This position requires a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.  A major in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills are needed in order to successfully work with numerous undergraduate research assistants and research participants.  Being technologically savvy, highly organized, and able to work independently are also essential for this position.  The ideal candidate will possess some experience/familiarity with scientific computing (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB).  Some research experience with EEG or psychophysics would be useful. 

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
