Full-time Faculty, Ear Training

Job Description:

Berklee College of Music invites applications for one full-time faculty position in the Ear Training Department. The ideal candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching and to helping students with diverse backgrounds and strengths in gaining the musicianship skills needed for success and creative expression.

The ideal candidate will be committed to supporting and promoting Berklee’s policies, goals, and values with regard to equity, diversity, and multicultural understanding. The candidate will be expected to teach across the core Ear Training curriculum. Appointment to begin September 1, 2024. This is a nine-month full-time position with a renewable contract. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. Please note that all Core Ear Training classes are held three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), in-person on the main Boston Campus.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College classroom teaching experience in ear training and musicianship skills required

  • Demonstrated excellence as a teacher, particularly regarding support for student success

  • Proficiency in the moveable DO solfege system required

  • Experience and current activity as a professional performer, composer, arranger, songwriter, producer, and/or other roles as a creative musical artist, ideally in varied contemporary styles of music

  • Ability to use the voice, music notation, classroom technology, and course management technology for effective classroom instruction.

  • Strong keyboard skills required

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in working with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to provide valuable departmental service to enhance pedagogy, curriculum, and teaching materials at Berklee

  • Master’s degree in music or equivalent professional experience preferred; Bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent professional experience required.

  • The ability and sensibility to learn and build upon the current Ear Training Curriculum 


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach multiple levels of core Ear Training 1-4, including some advanced-placement entering courses as needed

  • Be a leader in the department in advocating for and supporting student success

  • Contribute to curriculum development and review, create new teaching materials, mentor new members of the Ear Training faculty, participate in committee meetings and projects, and work on interdepartmental projects that serve the College as a whole (when assigned as part of Service to the College)

  • Attend departmental meetings

  • Use the Learning Management System to support classroom instruction

  • Other duties as assigned
