All faculty positions are non-tenure track, 10-month appointments, primarily hired as Assistant Professor. However, a higher rank may be considered if appropriate. UMass Global offers competitive salaries with generous benefits. This is a full-time, renewable Professional Practice track position (non-tenure) beginning as early as January 2024.
 

Assistant or Associate Professor Responsibilities

This 10-month position includes shared responsibility for curricular administration of the School Psychology Program.

Responsibilities of UMass Global full-time faculty include teaching, mentoring, and service. Research activities are supported but not required. The University is committed to creating and implementing new programs, services, and processes that improve teaching and learning effectiveness. All faculty are expected to:

  • Maintain currency in their discipline and strive to improve their teaching, mentoring, and service competencies;
  • Develop a systematic and comprehensive approach to professional development;
  • Actively participate in establishing, renewing, fostering, and demonstrating the attainment of learning outcomes at the program and course level and
  • Embrace change, particularly technological change, and actively participate in developing, delivering, and assessing high-quality instructional materials utilizing the most current instructional design approaches, engaging teaching strategies, and cutting-edge instructional technologies.

The Pupil Personnel Services Credential and Master’s degree in Educational Psychology and Ed.S. in School Psychology Program focuses on preparing school psychologists to function as professionals assisting all PK-Transition students in their academic and social/emotional development, using research-based interventions and a data-driven approach that aligns with NASP standards.

The School Psychology program serves a significant number of first-generation students, military students, and students in groups underrepresented in academia. This position is expected to work and teach online rather than from a physical campus. However, there may be some responsibilities to travel to California School Districts throughout the state, so residence in California is a requirement.

The Assistant Professor will:

  • Take a leadership role in developing and supporting clinical field experiences, including practica and internships for Ed.S. candidates in School Psychology
  • Teach courses in the School Psychology Program
  • Advise and direct Ed.S. candidates

This faculty role will focus on teaching and field supervision responsibilities and includes the expectation of service to the institution. Applied scholarship activity is encouraged, though not required. Possible courses include practices and principles of school psychology, methods of research-based interventions, consultation, and school-based mental health. This is a full-time faculty appointment.

Required qualifications include:

  • Earned doctorate in School or Educational Psychology
  • Candidates must hold a California Credential in School Psychology or be Credential-eligible through the California Commission on Teacher Accreditation.
  • Candidates must have at least three years’ experience as a practicing School Psychologist.
  • Experience in meeting the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of schools, teachers, parents, and students through research-based practices.
  • Demonstrated skill in the supervision of field-based school psychologists
  • Demonstrated experience in MTSS service delivery in PK-Transition settings
  • Record of teaching experience at the university level
  • Nationally Certified School Psychology (NCSP) status.
  • Experience in Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS), School-Based Behavioral and Mental Health, and/or other behavior support service delivery models.
  • Leadership experience within school psychology local, state, or professional associations
  • Residency in the State of California may require some travel within California.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • PK-Transition district-level school psychologist supervisory or department chair experience is strongly preferred.
  • Graduate of NASP or APA approved School Psychology program.
  • Preferred candidates will have a record of excellent teaching skills within a school psychology graduate education program, strong clinical experience working within school settings, strong clinical supervision and mentorship skills to practicum and internship students, and the ability to develop and maintain relationships with field supervisors across the region.
  • Experience in urban PK-transition school settings is strongly preferred.
  • Commitment to teaching and mentoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to address intersectionality theory in the classroom, particularly with power, privilege, and oppression issues.
  • Experience teaching adult learners in a college environment.
  • Effective record of innovation integrating curriculum and practice with appropriate technologies.
  • Knowledge of UMass Global policies and procedures.

Associate Dean Appointment

In addition, the position will be assigned as an Associate Dean, School Psychology appointment, which enhances the role to a 12-month position that accrues vacation. Associate Deans work closely with the academic program directors, education administrators, directors of educational effectiveness, and academic innovation leaders to manage ongoing academic needs related to resource allocation (faculty, technology, and staff), education program development/implementation, and faculty development and annual review. In addition, the associate dean collaborates with the Dean to participate in budget planning, creating education operation efficiencies, and communicating existing and emerging educational needs.

The Associate Dean typically receives a partial release from teaching duties and enhanced professional development funding.

Salary And Benefits:

Assistant Professor Starting annual salary: $78,500 - $80,500 based on education and experience.

Associate Professor Starting annual salary: $80,500 - $90,000 based on education and experience.

Associate Dean Appointment annual salary: $15,700 - $18,000 based on Full Time salary.
