Job Description:

Purpose: To supervise and assist students and faculty working in Photography darkrooms and professional photo studio facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Controls In/Out access to CNIC350 Photography Lab - Maintains single access control to the lab complex through the main door.
  • Final processing of black and white prints. (Instruction provided.)
  • Breakdown and cleanup of photo chemicals. (Instruction provided.)
  • Controls the checkout and in of lab and studio equipment.
  • Assists students and faculty with technical problems with the lab equipment.
  • Makes periodic rounds of the CNCIC350 Photography Lab Complex to verify the security of equipment and to ensure the safe and proper use of equipment and chemicals.
  • Contacts Campus Police if problems arise regarding health or safety.
  • Prepares reports for faculty regarding any technical problems they are unable to resolve.
  • Informs faculty of any safety and/or security problems.
  • Makes sure the Photo complex is clean and secure at the end of the shift. (Checklist and training provided.)
  • Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor.


Requirements:

Lab Monitors are critical line of support with the campus community and should therefore have a professional appearance, possess good interpersonal skills, have a basic working knowledge of equipment and software utilized in specific labs, be flexible and have a positive attitude. All applicants will receive full training and will be held personally responsible for all procedures covered in said training. While full training is provided, appropriate supervisors should be able to assess a situation and identify when problems are more serious and seek campus police or direct supervisor help. They should have the judgment to shut systems down when necessary. They will be required to assist students throughout their shift. Punctuality is required. If unable to cover a shift, prior notice and/or arrangements must be made in advance.

Shift Information:  This is a student only posting and you must have Federal Workstudy money allocated to you in your financial aid package. Shift will vary based on student schedules and the pay is $15 per hour.

Priority Review: Priority will be given to Past Communications Media employees, any Communications Media Majors and those with prior Photographic Darkroom experience.
