Job Description:

GatorWell is seeking enthusiastic, outgoing, motivated and health-conscious students to assist with the front desk and outreach duties with the Health Hut and at the GatorWell Main Office.  Those applying will need to be comfortable taking initiative to approach students and encourage them to participate in interactive wellbeing related activities.  Students of any major are welcome to apply.  Primary responsibilities will include the following:  


  •  Answer phones and schedule appointments - Maintain strict confidentiality of student’s personal information and appointments  

  • Prepare materials and buttons - For health communication messages for the main office, Health Hut, and Satellite Sites  

  • Assist and interact with all visitors - Answer questions and provide promotional items around health and campus resources, including potentially sensitive health related issues  

  • Provide peer-based education and outreach around sensitive issues – Including but not limited to the health topics listed below. Both via tabling and the GatorWell Health Hut  

  • Provide health and wellbeing resources - Brochures and promotional items  

  • Communicate health messages and conduct related activities - Developed by the GatorWell professional staff; to include an iPad based health intervention in the main office, as well as at various events around campus.  

  • Represent GatorWell Health Promotion Services - Possess a strong comprehension of GatorWell’s vision, mission and goals  

  • Working as a team with another Wellness Educator and Office Staff 


All of this is centered on messages including the following health topics: Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs, Cold & Flu, HIV/AIDS, Interpersonal Violence Prevention, Healthy Relationships, Sexual Health, Sleep, Stress and Time Management, and the 9 Dimensions of Wellbeing.   


Time Commitment:   


  • To be assigned the same shifts every week once the schedule is set at the beginning of the semester, occasionally with additional shifts (to include both front desk and outreach/Health Hut shifts)  


  • Work up to 20 hours per week  

  • MUST BE AVAILABLE TO START SUMMER 2024  

  • Must be able to commit to at least Summer and Fall 2024. 

  • Must have a mixture of day time availability  

  • Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am-5pm  

  • Must be able to attend bi-weekly wellness educator team meetings (TBD; Spring & Fall approx. 6-8 times a semester) 

  • Must be able to attend the Fall GatorWell Student Staff Training all day August 20th and 21st. 


Expectations: 


For this position, work shifts will take place primarily at the GatorWell main office at the Reitz Union, as well as tabling and working regular shifts in the GatorWell Health Hut at various events around campus as needed. Students are expected to be highly responsible and dependable. This position works as part of a creative team that includes Health Promotion Specialists and other students. In this position, you may need to field question(s) (in person or by phone or email) around sensitive issues such as, sexual health (safer sex including STD/STIs & birth control options), interpersonal violence, alcohol, and stress, as well as actively engage any visitors to the GatorWell main office and via outreach.  


For those selected for an interview, you will be asked to perform a brief, 3-5 minute “skit” during your interview. The purpose of the skit is to showcase your communication skills and ability to organize thought in a scenario similar to the daily work expectations for a GatorWell Front Desk Wellness Educator also providing outreach. Details to follow if selected for an interview.


Expected Salary:

This is an hourly OPS position and does not include a tuition/fee waiver or benefits. Salary is $12.00/hour    

Minimum Requirements:
  • This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS). Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average and be enrolled for at least six credit hours a semester. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week. 

  • Current UF student (undergraduate or graduate)  

  • MUST BE AVAILABLE TO START SUMMER 2024 


  • Must be able to commit to at least Summer and Fall 2024. 

  • Must be able to work in the GatorWell office space within the Reitz Union  

  • Must be able to work outreach shifts tabling and in the GatorWell Health Hut   

  • Must be able to attend wellness educator team meetings as scheduled (TBD)  

  • Must be able to attend the Fall GatorWell Student Staff Training and onboarding all day August 20th and 21st.

  • Experience in customer service  

  • Strong interest in health and wellbeing 

  • Strong interest in educating and helping peers  

  • Excellent verbal communication skills  

  • Ability to connect with others easily/outgoing  

  • Ability to work well as part of a team  

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills  

  • Excellent attendance and punctuality  

  • Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint)
