Department Purpose

Student Housing and Dining Services (SHDS) is a self-supporting auxiliary that provides housing and dining services to approximately 15,000 undergraduate, graduate, and students with families who live in on-campus residential facilities (university owner/managed and Public-Private-Partnerships), as well as providing residential, retail and catering dining services for the campus community. Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Catering and Concession Operations General Manager, the Catering and Concessions Service Supervisor is responsible for assisting in the oversight of the multi-faceted catering and concession operation. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service and quality products in a safe and aesthetically pleasing dining environment. Responsible for implementing accountability controls of staff to ensure maximum operational efficiency and effectiveness of implemented programs. Oversight of daily catering and concession staff including service to all on and off campus ceremonies and events including but not limited to: ICA game day activities, commencement ceremonies, campus catering needs and chancellor residence events. This position will be expected to uphold the highest level of confidentiality as they will serve and supervise private events and will be exposed to confidential information. The Food Services Supervisor will support and supervise the operation to ensure department business needs are met and financial goals are attained. Assures that service and product offerings meet campus needs in cost efficient manner. Provide mentorship to the catering and concessions service team and monitor adherence to customer service and quality standards. Manage daily staffing and labor schedules and guest service standards. Responsible for managing campus logistic policies, including the use and maintenance of catering delivery vehicles service upkeep. Must be willing and able to drive all vehicles in catering fleet.

In partnership with the Executive Chef, support daily operations including, logistical organization of daily events, executing customer service, staff scheduling, inventory management, menu execution, safety, equipment, and vehicle maintenance. The primary emphasis of this position focuses on business management practices (i.e. operations management, financial controls, human resource managements, interdepartmental relations, and research and development, project management, and menu/product change management.)

This position is responsible for managing campus cash handling policies and procedures, display and merchandising expectations, and logistical organization of daily events. Implement operational objectives and initiatives and seeks/provides resources to meet schedules and goals. Assures adherence to budgets, work plans and performance requirements. Identifies risks and responds accordingly. Involved in developing, modifying and executing policies that affect immediate operation(s) and may have campus-wide impact, including campus policy audits and inspections.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:           

  • Experience supervising in a catering, concessions, restaurant, food service environment or dining service-related field within the past 10 years.
  • Experience with labor scheduling, food handling/storage policies & procedures, quality control, health and safety standards.
  • Experience managing shifting daily priorities and objectives.
  • Experience utilizing interpersonal communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of varying backgrounds and perspectives to research and secure information to resolve problems.
  • Experience identifying and executing the elements, and steps of service needed to conduct a service-oriented event.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:            

  • Experience using computerized systems, including inventory, ordering management, and time-keeping programs in a catering, concession, restaurant, or a dining service-related field
  • Experience analyzing, interpreting, and applying personnel policy and procedure, collective bargaining agreements and employment law, advising management and managing sensitive employee and labor relations problems.
  • Experience in PCI & managing cash handling policies and procedures.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Knowledge of related Federal, State, Local, and UC regulations.
