Position Summary:

Renders skilled emergency treatment to the critically ill or injured patient on emergency scenes or in medical facilities; and during transport to tertiary care facilities via helicopter.

  • Maintains and presents a positive program image for internal and external customers, patient families, and visitors. Professional associations and relationships with referring agencies and facilities.

  • Safety and Aviation Duties

    • Assures operations areas are secure and free of safety hazards during takeoffs and landings.

    • Secures aircraft doors.

    • Performs FAA safety briefings.

    • Performs fire safety activities during start-ups and shutdowns.

    • Reports safety concerns per UHS and Aviation Vendor Policies.

  • Demonstrates competent performance of medical duties.

    • Provides direct patient care using a process of assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and reevaluation within parameters of program medical protocols and standing orders.

    • Demonstrates use of appropriate medical skills, equipment, and procedures in all patient care activities.

    • Performs inspection, re-supply, and cleaning/disinfection of program transport vehicles on a daily or as needed basis.

    • Accurately documents assessments, diagnosis, and interventions in departmental patient records, written and electronic. Reports findings and actions to receiving agencies or/and facilities.

    • Attends quarterly Simulation Labs.

  • Meets the requirements of a paramedic at UTMC.

    • Maintains Paramedic license per State of Tennessee, North Carolina, and Kentucky EMS Air Ambulance Rules

    • Maintains National Registry Paramedic Certification

    • Maintains provider status in ACLS, NRP, ITLS or PHTLS, and PALS.

    • Maintains advanced certification per Tennessee, Kentucky, and North Carolina State EMS Air Ambulance Rules


Position Qualification:

Associates degree (AA) or equivalent from two year college or technical school required.

Minimum three years experience as a Paramedic in an active city or county 911 EMS system or municipal Fire/EMS department

Previous flight experience is preferred

ACLS, BTLS/PHTLS, PALS, Licensure as a Paramedic in the state of Tennessee.
