Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The mission of the Intelligence Studies, Geospatial Science, Political Science, and History Department is to provide high-quality educational programs and services in these degree-granting programs and in minors in Philosophy and Sustainability. A major goal of the department’s multi-disciplinary faculty is to help students develop key skills and foundational knowledge in the foregoing areas. By offering courses ranging from critical thinking, the humanities, and social science to ethics, civic engagement, environmental studies and sustainability, global literacy, the department faculty strive to empower students with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in their chosen professions and become effective twenty-first century global citizens. The department will endeavor through its internship programs and work closely with institutional partners, to provide career pathways for all majors that will assure transition into meaningful professions in their chosen field. Through teaching and research and service, the IGPH Department faculty aims to promote the cultural, social, and economic well-being of the residents of the region and the nation.

Department of Intelligence Studies, Geospatial Science, Political Science and History at Fayetteville State University invites applications for a Fixed Term Lecturer in Intelligence Studies to begin in August 2024. Fayetteville State University is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina and the Second-oldest public institution of higher education in the state. To be eligible for the Lecturer position, the candidate must hold a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Intelligence Studies. Founded in 1867 as the Howard School for the education of African Americans, today FSU serves a growing student body of approximately 7,000 and ranks among the nation’s most diverse campus communities. Fayetteville is in the scenic Cape Fear River Valley of North Carolina, between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. Residents of Fayetteville enjoy mild temperatures, four distinct seasons, a low cost of living, and easy access to beautiful Carolina beaches.
The Department of Intelligence Studies, Geospatial Science, Political Science and History offers a variety of bachelor’s degrees in political science, history, geospatial science, along with an approved BA in Intelligence Studies (seated and online degree completion formats). Responsibilities of faculty include teaching at the undergraduate level and service to the university and to the community. In addition to instruction duties will include curriculum development, service to the profession, and participation in college and department activities. Candidates must be capable of providing web-based instruction.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • To be eligible for the Lecturer position, the candidate must hold a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Intelligence Studies, Security Studies and International Relations or closely related field.
  • Experience with teaching various formats (seated, online, synchronous, and asynchronous
  • Position requires experience with online education at the college level.
  • Practitioner experience and demonstrated expertise in U.S. Intelligence Community or intelligence-related fields is highly valued
