ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology supports the vision and goals of USF Health and the Morsani College of Medicine. The department consists of 30 faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, laboratory researchers, and a team of administrative staff. We have over $12M in NIH funding and are ranked as a top physiology department in the nation.
Our researchers have expertise in systems physiology, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory dysfunction, metabolic/kidney disease, neurophysiology and neurodegenerative disorders. The goal of our research programs is to translate studies that decipher mechanisms of diseases or discover novel diagnostic/therapeutic targets into improved health care.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a professional position providing financial analysis and projections, budget management, and fiscal resource management for a college, campus, or division; or for a complex program or department with multiple grant, auxiliary, and/or foundation funding sources. The primary purpose of this position is to analyze financial and accounting data to and keep management and/or faculty investigators informed on the financial and budget status of the unit.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in the set-up and management of research projects. Prepares monthly projections continuous monitoring of project, including payroll and non-payroll expenditures, budget transfers, expenditure transfers and regulatory compliance. Reviews effort reporting and ensures that faculty and staff are approving their effort reports in a timely manner.
Has approval authority for all purchasing related activities and provides oversight by monitoring how purchases are affecting the budget, for compliance with USF policies and OMB guidelines, and for appropriate spending limits. Processes travel request, purchase orders, approves invoices for payment and reconciles purchasing transactions (P-cardand invoices). Resolves vendor billing issues. Serves as a liaison with faculty members, University Payroll/Purchasing, Office of Research, and other areas within the University Controller's office on all sponsored
project matters and assists with resolving grant budgetary problems.
Prepare and process the necessary paperwork for reimbursements from the University Foundation, Research Foundation and state funding sources.
Monitors internal accounting/operating processed and makes recommendations to administration for enhancements. Assures that proper control procedures are following and assists the department with the implementation of new policies, procedures and controls. Recommends appropriate accounting controls to be implemented and develops new and/or makes revisions to previous fiscal procedures for the department, divisions, grant, or college.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or other field directly related to the position's specific responsibilities and 0-2 years of fiscal related work experience; or a Bachelor's degree in no specific required field and two years of fiscal related work experience; or four years fiscal related work experience.
PREFERRED:
Previous background in research administration and knowledge of pre- and/or post-award practices.
