The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 26 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.

The Financial Reporting Analyst position reports to the Accounting and Reporting department of the University System Office.  

The Financial Reporting Analyst's primary responsibility is to use accounting techniques to compile, analyze and document institution financial data. They summarize and report information for financial statements and quarterly or annual reports. This position works with all institutions within the University System of Georgia. 

Work with other financial reporting professionals on an enterprise level to prepare the financial statements and footnotes of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), the Budgetary Compliance Report (BCR) and other financial reports

  • Assist the USO Accounting and Reporting team with the research and development of accounting procedures and policies which integrate Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards, statutory accounting requirements, and USG fiscal policies and procedures
  • Assist the USO Accounting and Reporting team in the implementation of financial reporting process improvements
  • Provide professional guidance and assistance in the solution of complex accounting and financial problems
  • Provide sound analytical support for key financial reporting decision making
  • Provide insightful analysis of key reporting data
  • Communicate with institutions and other reporting organizations as needed
  • Engage and lead ad hoc projects as needed

Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND three years of professional level experience in accounting and/or a closely related fiscal activity.

Preference may be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, possess the following: 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or qualified to take exam
  • Knowledge and experience with governmental accounting
  • Knowledge and experience with higher education
  • 5 years of professional level experience in accounting
  • 2 years of work experience in the public sector

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accounting procedures, financial reporting practices, and governmental accounting
  • Ability to prepare accurate accounting entries and adjustments and perform mathematical computations accurately using database principles and/or computerized accounting applications
  • Ability to use technical judgment in determining the accuracy and completeness of financial information
  • Ability to confer with others on problems which affect or are affected by the accounting system
  • Ability to organize and translate large quantities of data to prepare financial reports
