Department Description
The Department of Computer Science is a large complex research unit, one of eight academic departments in the College of Engineering, and provides instruction and research within specialty areas of engineering. The Department has 40+ faculty, 3 technical IT Support staff, 15 administrative staff and administers a large UG program (~1800 students), two graduate programs: M.S. and Ph.D. (~400 graduate students) and considering various ways to increase revenue to the unit (i.e., online certifications and courses). Computer Science has a large service component to other programs which teaches over 11,000 students per year (over 47,000 SCH). The department continues to hire new faculty increasing the amount of extramural funding brought into the unit.
Job Summary
Within the Department of Computer Science serve as a working manager, managing all financial aspects within the department as well as supervise and serve as the principal trainer and resource for financial office staff on financial procedures, policy, and general office operation matters. Under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, provides long-range financial planning and forecasting. Responsible for pre- and post-award grant processes, budget preparation, analysis, and forecasting, and the control of complex budgets. This position serves as the compliance officer for extramural funding, gifts, contracts, and department funding. Manages effort reporting, cost sharing, and participates in the financial planning for a wide variety of extramural funding. Gather, manage, and analyze financial data from a variety of revenue streams, including state general funds, state and federal grants, private grants, gifts, and other funding sources. Act as departmental compliance expert in University policy and procedure for departmental business processes, including hiring, purchasing, travel and entertainment processes. Assist the CAO in long-range financial planning and forecasting of extramural and department operating accounts.
This is a critical position with independent management responsibility for financial support services. Work is performed autonomously under the general direction of the CAO.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Minimum Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and /or equivalent experience / training,
  • Experience with supervision of career (full time) staff, including providing leadership, direction, and oversight of the staff supervised.
  • Experience in financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic planning to analyze and
  • compile financial data and reports including technical skills to run pivot tables, use Smartsheet, and similar data tools.
  • Experience as a compliance officer for federal, state, and private foundation, and industry awards.
  • Experience in submitting complex grant proposals and post award financial management and reporting.
  • Experience with establishing and controlling complex budgets and review of financial ledgers; including follow up related to corrections; and activities associated with fiscal closing.
    Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
  • Excellent writing and communication skills to establish policy, develop procedures, and communicate change.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Preferred Education/Experience:
  • Experience with and skills to evaluate and identify problems, inefficiencies, lack of policy, and non-compliance issues.
    Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
  • Knowledge of UC policies, financial operating procedures, and financial systems/programs.
  • Organizational skills to work with changing priorities, demanding workload, and be able to make decisions based on established guidelines and rules (or lack thereof).
