Financial Analyst

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) and two (2) years of full-time experience working in a financial environment. Experience with accounts payable, financial statements/reimbursements, and data analysis relating to finance and accounting. Experience working with programs to create budgets, track income and expenditures, and/or forecast expenses. Experience working with large data-sets, using various statistical software, analyzing data and providing reports and presentations. 
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience working with epidemiology and/or health care programs. Experience working with Stony Brook purchasing and accounting systems.  Experience handling federally sponsored grant programs. Experience tracking budgets, IRB submissions, award reconciliations, personnel hiring, travel reimbursements, payroll and purchasing. Experience with medical claims processing. Experience working with Microsoft products including but not limited to Excel.
Brief Description of Duties:
The desired applicant will have strong mathematical skills, logical skills, and data analytic skills. Strong leadership skills and communication skills.
In collaboration with the Budget Manager, the Financial Analyst will be responsible for the following program financial needs including but not limited to:

  • Creating the financial forecasts based on a staffing plan for the expected growth of the Program.
  • Reconciling accounts payable, reviewing receipts and monthly invoices prior to submission.
  • Negotiating financial resolutions with NIOSH and internal Stony Brook departments such as Grants Management with regards to managing grant supported funding as well as FFS funds.
  • Managing funds available to support the day-to-day operations of the Program.
  • Managing compliance with Sponsor, State, Research Foundation, Stony Brook Foundation regulations as well as compliance with Federal and State agencies with regards to funding application and restrictions.
  • Proposing changes and solutions to improve business procedures, to streamline processes, and to resolve financial problems encountered by the Program.
  • The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of analytic projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Notes:
The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
**The incumbent must be willing to work and travel between the Nassau and Commack clinic locations. Occasional Evenings and Saturdays will be required.
