Financial Analyst (FINANCIAL ANL 3) - SCHOOL OF NURSING
Job Summary
This Financial Analyst 3 (FA3) position will independently perform high-level budgetary and financial functions for assigned programs, units, and initiatives, including formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources. This individual will prepare and establish budgets, organize resources according to budgetary plans, prepare both routine and ad hoc financial reports using data from the general ledger and budgets, and forecast revenue and expenses. The incumbent will exercise initiative, originality and judgement in the development, implementation and management of a diverse scope that will include intermural, extramural and clinical practice funding sources.
The financial analyst 3 will be a member of the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing Grants Administration team and will report to the director of research administration. The goals and objectives of the team are to maintain, improve and strengthen administrative infrastructure and systems that facilitates the schools research programs and other grant sponsored endeavors. The team supports the school's research enterprise and fundraising goals by offering an array of services and resources to assist faculty, postdoctoral scholars, students and staff in identification of funding opportunities; the development and submission of research and program proposals, the execution of innovative interprofessional/interdisciplinary nursing science research, educational programs, clinical practice, and dissemination of research findings and program outcomes. This position will provide high-level financial support to the School of Nursing Health Professions Education and clinical practice portfolio.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or other related fields or equivalent workrelated experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial analysis and business management of large or complex portfolios, including forecasting and strategic planning, to analyze quantitative aspects of fiscal and budgetary issues, compile financial data and prepare financial reports, and present information in an appropriate format.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing budget proposals and policies, or performing highlevel financial management tasks in a multi-fund source environment. Experience developing budgets for annual operational and extramural purposes, reconciling ledgers and developing and/or adapting spreadsheets and databases.
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Excel and other common programs to distill relevant financial and statistical information from large data sets and present the information for financial reporting.
  • Experience with other similar spreadsheet and presentation programs may be considered equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing effective grant applications.
  • Excellent editing and proof-reading skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and think clearly, quickly and creatively.
  • Ability to gather, organize and synthesize large amounts of complex information from diverse sources to assist in the formulation of accurate and persuasive language supporting the funding of various research and academic program initiatives. Initiation, analytical and planning skills to formulate goals and objectives of systems and projects under development.
  • Ability to understand a variety of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and tools, requirements, and general aims.
  • Excellent organizational skills to determine workload priorities to meet deadlines, and to enable timely completion of tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with a broad array of interdisciplinary/interprofessional investigators regarding the development of new projects/programs and corresponding grant proposals.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently under pressure with a minimum of direction functioning as team coordinator or supporting team member.
  • Ability to maintain the strict confidentiality of any privileged communications and records.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CRA (Certificate in Research Administration)
  • Experience with UCD policies and web-based systems for grants and contracts, purchasing, etc.
  • Skills to use UC Davis financial information systems-including but not limited to Aggie Enterprise, UCPath, and Cognos-at a high level to identify, research, report, and advise on extramural finances.
  • Knowledge of UC institutional standards, advanced computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software, database management, statistical analysis software and Internet and web browser and e-mail applications
  • Detailed knowledge of Federal grant application procedures, formats, guidelines requirements, submission and review processes. Knowledge of research administration in an academic setting
