Under the general supervision of the Finance Manager, the Assistant Financial Analyst is responsible for assisting with financial analysis to support decision-making processes. This role requires the ability to execute work accurately and independently, functioning effectively under competing priorities. The incumbent will research, interpret, and apply all applicable Departmental and University policies and regulations with minimal supervision. Key responsibilities include preparing financial reports, ensuring budgetary compliance, coordinating funding changes, and assisting with fund reconciliation and closeout processes.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with non-sponsored accounts, including opportunity funds, state general fund, education funds, pro fees, and private gifts. Prepare timely financial reports and maintain internal controls and audit procedures specific to fund sources.

  • Review and approve purchase order requests and vendor payment requests prepared by the Purchasing Assistant. Assist in preparing monthly budget status reports and collect proof of receipt monthly. Prepare academic and staff fund worksheets. Assist in preparing corrective cost transfers, budget appropriations, and payroll expense transfers. Assist with fund closeout and review of financial status reports.

  • Handle cash deposits to ATM and assist in journal entry preparation. Request central Accounting to establish/set up new accounts. Serve as backup for department purchases, employee reimbursements, and accounts payable. Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.


The hourly compensation range for this role is $29.31 - $45.93. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate, position requirements, AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
