UC San Diego is hiring a Financial Analyst 2 to support the campus operations for the 2023 - 2024 School Year.

Duration: This role is anticipated to last 11 months

Compensation: $29.60 to $34.48 per hour DOE. Eligible for paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday: 8:00am - 4:30pm

Location: Hybrid (2 days on site) on campus in La Jolla.

This position serves as a Financial Analyst in support of the operations of the department.

Provides analytical support to the Director.

This position compiles financial data from various internal and external sources to be analyzed and used to develop reports, budgets, and administrative business procedures for the department.

Researches and prepares briefing materials and statistical information.

  • Advises divisional leadership of discrepancies and makes recommendations of solutions. Assists in streamlining fiscal processes and implementing technical solutions to improve financial reporting models.

  • Assists in developing controls to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data.

  • Also, responsible for the reconciliation of around 300 permanent staffing positions for Advancement units.

  • Reviews confidential documents concerning personnel matters such as salary and fringe benefit data. Uses professional concepts.

  • Applies organizational policies and procedures to resolve various issues.

  • Works on problems of limited to moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of multiple factors.

  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Contacts are primarily internal to the department, but may also be external.

  • Working knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.

  • Ability to gather reasonably retrievable information to organize and perform basic financial analysis assignments.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing clearly and concisely. Demonstrated ability using spreadsheet and database software for moderately complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills at all levels within the unit; excellent service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high-volume environment. Ability to adapt to changing priorities.

  • Ability to function as a member of a team. Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.

This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.


Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $61,800 - $108,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $29.60 - $51.72

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
