Job Description Summary

Under general supervision, this position performs general office support for the financial aid department by assisting veteran students regarding the VA/GI benefit processing for the college. Performs routine and similar clerical duties requiring general knowledge of basic office systems and procedures in a high-volume area.
The incumbent will perform a variety of clerical functions/processes that are designed and directed by technical professional staff. Limited independent judgment is needed.
This position allows eligible veterans and their spouses to claim Veterans’ Preference pursuant to Florida Statute 295. Certain servicemembers may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements, in the employment by the state and its political subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled.

Minimum Education:

  • High school education or an equivalent required. 

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • One year office experience preferred.
  • Experience with VA/GI Bill benefits strongly preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Essential Functions:

  • Daily- 20%: Provides exceptional customer service by providing information and assisting with federal Veterans Administration (VA) forms and education benefits to current and prospective students.
  • Daily -20% Assists students in completion of the VA application while maintaining confidentiality. Submits forms to the Veterans Administration.
  • Daily -10%: Scans submitted documents into the college system.
  • Daily- 10%: Communicates with VA on behalf of student with specific benefit-related issues.
  • Daily -20%: Participates in outreach events to promote student success and completion
  •  Other, as Needed -20%: Performs other related duties as assigned.
