Financial Aid Services Specialist (Hybrid)

The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for assisting with completion of student requests and performing back-end financial aid processing, while maintaining accuracy and compliance with Department of Education regulations. This role supports students utilizing Federal Student Aid to assist with achieving their educational goals. Financial Aid Specialists will engage with student recruitment, admissions and/or financial aid activities.
This is a remote opportunity available to individuals across the US. For those local to our corporate office in Charles Town, WV, a hybrid schedule including 1 day per week on-site is required.
Responsibilities:
- Assists in completion of back-end processing of Financial Aid through multiple computer systems, spreadsheets, and databases while maintaining a high level of accuracy and timely completion of tasks.
- Completes daily work deliverables, which include, but are not limited to: application verifications, disbursements, reconciliation, financial aid packaging, and other financial aid processes.
- Regularly collaborates with colleagues to ensure work is completed accurately and within established timeframes to achieve departmental and organizational goals Provides all internal and external customers with a high-quality experience.
- Communicates with students and third-party partners frequently through email and outbound calls.
- Uses critical thinking skills to identify problems and appropriate solutions and ensure situations and issues are addressed proactively through a forward-thinking lens.
- Analyzes student information with a strong ethical foundation in an atmosphere of confidentiality and in compliance with federal privacy laws.
- Stays current with knowledge of regulatory changes within Finance and Financial Aid to ensure compliance with Department of Education regulations and best practices.
- Maintains eligibility to access the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS),as defined by the US Department of Education. To maintain access to NSLDS, one must not have defaulted on any student loan in the past, be in default currently or have issues with access to NSLDS in the future.

- Performs other duties as directed, requested or assigned.
Requirements/Essential Skills:
- Minimum of 1 year experience working in a financial aid, billing, data entry or student support type setting. Experience in the education sector a plus.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills.
- Solutions oriented attitude with demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands with minimal supervision.
- High level of phone and email etiquette with professional grammar and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze information to understand issues, identify options, and support sound decision making.
- Basic math skills.
- General technical abilities to adjust to new computer systems and software.
- General proficiency of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook & Teams.
Education:
- Associate’s degree required.
