Essential functions (job duties):

Essential Functions (Job Duties):

Maintain a thorough knowledge of legislation and regulations governing financial aid programs needs analysis methodology, federal and state tax laws, and office policies and procedures.

Review current literature and attend professional meetings to keep current on federal, state, and institutional regulations and policy changes.

Perform and understand needs analysis procedures/process.

Review financial aid application documents (verification) for accuracy and completeness.

Process applications for financial aid, including needs analysis/assessment, determining financial aid eligibility, and packaging/awarding of federal, state and institutional aid programs.

Administer/apply the standards of satisfactory academic progress for all financial aid programs and counsel students as to their compliance.

Exercise Professional Judgment for resolution of complex, unusual, and mitigating student situations.

Serve as a resource to other professional, administrative, and clerical staff members in interpreting financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures.

Serve on committees to assist in drafting and/or developing guidelines and procedures related to the processing and delivering of financial aid.

Counsel, advise, and provide written, as well as telephone and in-person, communication to students, parents, outside offices/agencies on all phases of financial aid office operations, policies, and procedures.

Acquire knowledge and understanding of Wayne State University academic programs and student services to educate students and their families about the University's strengths, and thereby enable the successful recruitment, enrollment, and retention of students.

Act as a liaison between the financial aid office and selected university departments/units/agencies as assigned. Responsibilities may include information sharing, coordination of programs between departments, or administering/processing financial aid for selected groups of students.

Develop, publicize, and conduct public workshops, seminars, etc. at secondary schools, community colleges, or at other community events/gatherings to promote and explain the University's financial aid programs to prospective students and their parents.

Collect data and provide analysis of data for various federal, state, and institutional reports as appropriate.

Performance of some essential functions may require occasional evening and/or weekend work hours.

Other duties as assigned.  


Unique duties:
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree.

Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.

Strong analytical skills. 

Previous financial aid experience preferred.

Experience with mainframe software applications and/or personal computer applications strongly desired.
