ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Student Success division at the University of South Florida, is comprised of 60 departments, providing students with academic support, engagement opportunities, health & wellness services and enhancement of the educational experience. The Office of Financial Aid Services is responsible for coordinating and administering all student financial assistance awarded to USF students, in compliance with Federal, State, and Institutional regulations and guidelines. The office is the main point of contact for all financial aid program information for current and prospective students and families. The office is responsible for coordinating and managing the awarding and disbursement of over $450 million in financial aid funds on an annual basis; interpreting changes to federal, state and institutional regulations and translating the effect/impact to students and families in a manner they can understand, particularly first generation students; providing an array of financial aid support options for students and their families; and providing oversight to monitor the entire process to ensure institutional compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Financial Aid Assistant provides clerical and client service support for a financial aid subject matter, requiring accuracy, attention to detail, and strong customer service skills with students and families. Reporting to a Financial Aid Team Manager, the Financial Aid Assistant advises students while determining when a referral for manager consultation is appropriate. The Financial Aid Assistant assists students in understanding and completing financial aid applications and/or documents.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitors awarding and billing of federal and institutional grants (Federal Pell Grant, TEACH Grant, SEOG, USF Grant) and direct loans within federal and institutional guidelines.
Assigned phone and lobby duties to provide individualized counseling and information about financial aid processes to students and families. Maintain integrity and student confidentiality in accordance with federal law. Refers students to assigned financial aid counselors or other university offices when need arises.
Provide clerical and client service support for a financial aid subject matter, requiring accuracy, and attention to detail.
Monitor, valuate, and process official and unofficial withdrawals during semesters to determine the return of federal student aid in accordance with federal regulations.
Reviews tracking reports and evaluates completeness of documents in the digital imaging system.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with two years of experience in office or administrative positions. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.


PREFERRED:
Associate's Degree and three years of Financial Aid and/or customer service experience in a university setting.
