Located in the heart of Iowa State’s campus, the Office of Student Financial Aid is a unit within the Division of Academic Affairs that administers more than $400 million in federal, state, institutional, and private funds to over 85% of undergraduate students, along with additional support for domestic graduate students seeking aid. We strive to help all students succeed in their Iowa State experience through education and outreach to create an understanding of available financial aid opportunities.

About the role:

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Inform students and families of their financial aid options, including how to submit aid applications, as well as information on federal and institutional aid availability and eligibility requirements.
  • Teach students important financial literacy topics during one-on-one meetings and during group presentations, fostering positive financial discussions to set students up for financial success.
  • Inform students and their families of the affordability of Iowa State is also essential to our role.
  • Staffing university resource fairs and meeting with prospective students in surrounding communities are ways we introduce students to the world of financial aid and to our welcoming staff.
  • Provide supervision to a team of financial aid advisors.
  • Administer the university’s default management programs and manage the financial literacy programs through the Office of Student Financial Success.
  • Oversee the private loan processing within the office and will serve as a point of contact for lenders, iLink, and ELM contacts.
  • Supervise the study abroad and National Student Exchange processes within the office.
  • Assist with reviewing professional judgment appeals, such as special conditions, marital status appeals, independent appeals, and satisfactory academic progress appeals.

  • You must be detail-oriented, creative, and possess the ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks, as well as be a self-motivated individual with strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Level Guidelines
• Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISU’s mission and department or work unit goals
• Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude
• Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action
• Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices
• Responds to complicated inquiries, provides training, and provides direction to lower-level staff
• May provide supervision to one to two other staff (i.e., leads a small work team)
• May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist
• Provides guidance to students
