The Financial Accountant I is responsible for performing entry-level professional accounting tasks and providing technical expertise at a university level.

 

What you need to know

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to the selected hire’s experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • No required experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs.

  • Excellent oral and written communication; customer service and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to comprehend and apply rules and regulations in a complex environment.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

  • Accounting experience in a business office.

  • Experience in higher education.

  • Working knowledge of database programs.

  • Knowledge of reconciliations.

  • Familiarity with FAMIS, USAS and the TAMU environment.

  • Practical knowledge of governmental and higher education operations.

Essential Duties/Tasks

Research and Analysis:

  • Researches discrepancies and reports findings.

  • Identifies, investigates, and resolves outstanding reconciling items through journal entries, meetings, correspondence, identifying corrections, and following-up.

  • Audits accounting and financial documents for accuracy and completeness.

  • Assures compliance with standards, policies and procedures.

Reconciliations:

  • Prepares and analyzes financial transactions.

  • Prepares and analyzes reconciliations for TDEM general ledger accounts, bank accounts, and state bank accounts.

Data Entry:

  • Records journal entries into FAMIS and USAS.
