What we want

The Financial Accountant I is responsible for performing entry-level, professional, accounting tasks at a university level within the Division of Finance. Audits for compliance of local, federal, and state rules and regulations on travel expense reports, direct bills, and pre and post payment exceptions.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication, customer service and problem-solving skills.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Ability to comprehend, apply, and enforce rules and regulations.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Experience and Education:

  • Experience in higher education.

  • Some experience in a business office.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet programs and bookkeeping procedures.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

PRE AND POST PAYMENT AUDIT OF TRAVEL PAYMENTS AND REIMBURSEMENTS:

  • Works independently for Pre-payment audit of exceptions, direct bill, and employee reimbursements related to travel.

  • Accurately maintains compliance with Disbursement Guidelines, TAMU and TAMUS Rules and SAPS, and State and Federal Travel Rules and Guidelines.

  • Helps to maintain a 5-day processing turnaround in Travel.

  • Conducts efficient post-payment audit of travel expense transactions based on review of Oversight exceptions.

  • Helps to review all the previous month's exceptions before the new refresh of each month.

  • Evaluates processes as they change with new software and brings forward constructive suggestions to ensure optimal efficiency and documents best practices.

 

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

  • Provides excellent customer service to University departments, TAMU System members, and external customers via online help desk/ helpline, and e-mails.

  • Researches and resolves issues related to travel and employee reimbursements at a university level.

  • Response time to be provided within 24 hours and if possible same day.

 

TRAINING RESOURCE:

  • Serve as a training resource to TAMU and other system members.

  • Assist new users and business staff with system overviews and processes.
