JOB SUMMARY

The College of Engineering is seeking dynamic and team-oriented candidates for a full-time Administrative Program Support 4 position for the School of Computing. Under the supervision of the School Director and the Associate Finance Director for the College, the incumbent will oversee the unit’s fiscal operations and will provide administrative support to the School. The incumbent will be responsible for supervising support staff and will be expected to manage departmental day-to-day operations as they align with the School’s policies and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads or assists with a wide range of fiscal, administrative, and operational matters; establishes, implements, and monitors departmental administrative processes and procedures as well as strategic initiatives.
  • Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Serves as the fiscal officer on all department financial accounts; monitors revenue and expenditures for each fiscal account and provides regular reports and projections to the Department Head, faculty, and program directors.
  • Leads or assists in the preparation of financial reports to meet federal, state, University, school, and departmental regulations and requirements.
  • Assists Department Head in all aspects of departmental operation. 
  • Oversees day-to-day department operations and assists students, staff, faculty, and others with a wide range of administrative and fiscal matters. 
  • Coordinates the processing and maintenance of necessary paperwork to support the School, including financial and personnel records along with departmental and faculty purchases, reimbursements, travel expense reports, and website content.
  • Monitors and approves expenditures.
  • Reviews departmental administrative policies and procedures for efficiency and effectiveness and recommends improvements; implements policies and procedures.
  • Provides hiring support and processes paperwork for new and hiring positions.
  • Serves as a liaison between the School and other University offices, external organizations, and the public.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field and four to five years of related professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Proven experience in fiscal operations including financial reporting and financial management.
    • One year of experience serving in a supervisory role to support staff.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently with the ability to solve problems efficiently and effectively.
    • Excellent attention to detail, communication, organization, written and interpersonal skills.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience working in a higher education setting.
    • Ability to process multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
    • Ability to work with diverse student, administrative, and faculty populations and provide a commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in an educational setting.
    • Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft programs and familiarity with virtual communication platforms.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills.
    • Creativity and adaptability to perform new tasks and learn new skills as the need arises.

    APPOINTMENT TERMS

    This is a full-time position. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. Salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate's background and experience. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
