Position Overview

The individual in this position coordinates and secures field-based experiences for University of Kansas teacher education students in accordance KU’s principles on Culture and Belonging. This position coordinates with faculty, staff, and external partners to assist in students’ progression through their academic programs. The position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Teacher Education and Undergraduate Programs.

Job Description

40% Coordination of Field Experiences

  • Placement of approximately 700 students per year (Fall, Spring, Summer) including:
    • Classroom observations
    • Practicum and field experience for undergraduate and graduate courses
    • 8 - 16 week student teaching and graduate practicum placements
  • Engage in on-going conversations with district and school partners to ensure a mutually-beneficial, collaborative relationship
  • Serve as the point person for students, faculty, staff and field-based partners concerning issues or questions related to field placement
  • Lead meetings with program leaders in the SOEHS surrounding issues related to field experience
  • Plan two student teaching orientations as well as one virtual student teaching info session each year
  • Work closely with academic advisors to verify student teaching eligibility and any other student situations
  • Manage the renewal of Affiliation Agreements with partner school districts
  • Collect satisfaction data from students, university supervisors, and clinical supervisors
  • 40% Student Records and Database Maintenance
  • Develop and maintain accurate database of placement information, summative and formative evaluations by both university and clinical supervisors as well as all confidential student records.
  • Keep track of and update the records housed in our current field experience database. 
  • Collect, generate, send required paperwork to our district partners and KSDE each semester
  • Review dispositional data each semester and distribute to program leaders and department chairs.
  • Oversee the collection of student teaching assessment data
  • Work closely with the licensure officer to verify program completion
  • 20% Miscellaneous
  • Direct responsibility for the report development, submission, and check distribution of clinical supervisor stipends each semester 
  • Develop and maintain all forms associated with field experience as well as the Student Teacher/Internship handbook.
  • Manage the Tickets for Teachers Award program (ie. collect nominations, select and notify recipients, collaborate with endowment and the Assistant to the Dean)
  • Monitor and regularly update information on the field experience portion of the SOEHS website to ensure it is accurate and up-to-date
  • Assist the SOEHS academic advisors to help students progress in their programs
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Higher Education, or related field and three years of related experience.
  • Experience working with individuals at a variety of levels within education (students, faculty, administration, individuals in school districts).
  • Knowledge of record keeping and database management with strong technology- based skills. 
  • Experience solving problems independently as demonstrated in application materials. 
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with a capacity for effective management of simultaneous responsibilities. 

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Filemaker Pro and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Related experience working in a university setting in areas such as teacher education administrative support, admissions, student records, advising; or experience working as a teacher in K-12 classrooms or similar duties.
  • Experience as a coordinator of field experiences.
  • Familiarity with KU School of Education and Human Services policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with KSDE licensure standards and regulations.
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Education, or related field.
