Field Education Coordinator/Clinical Instructor: Social Work BHWISE Fellowships

 

The University of Maryland School of Social Work (UMSSW) is seeking a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track faculty Field Education Coordinator/Clinical Instructor who will function as a Field Coordinator for MSW students who are participating in any of the Behavioral Health Workforce Integration Service and Education (BHWISE) initiatives. Additionally, the position will develop, coordinate, and facilitate training for the Substance Use Disorder Workforce Expansion (SUDWE) fellowship.

 

The BHWISE fellowships are training programs for MSW students committed to providing behavioral health services to individuals from underserved populations. These students receive inter-professional educational opportunities, specialized training sessions, and field education assignments, focused coursework, and an educational stipend. 

 

The program is seeking an energetic social work educator with a commitment to integrated behavioral health and social work education to join our creative and committed team of social work behavioral health educators. This individual must understand how social workers function in integrated health settings and substance use disorder treatment programs and have a passion for teaching students.

 

Essential Functions

  • Review field applications, refer, and manage placement in appropriate agencies for students in the BHWISE Fellowship programs.
  • Collaborate with students and faculty field liaisons to resolve student issues in the field.
  • Recruit and maintain relationships with agencies and field instructors to develop new fields. Placements that meet CSWE accreditation requirements and integrated behavioral health placement requirements.
  • Communicate regularly with other field coordinators and OFE staff on changes to placements, agencies, field instructors, and other relevant field-related items.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings, program evaluation, and program development.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty in their efforts to obtain external funding for practice research.
  • Develop curriculum for program-related seminars and training sessions.
  • Coordinate and/or facilitate seminars and other training for advanced year BHWISE SUDWE fellowship students.
  • Other duties are as appropriate and assigned.

Qualifications

 

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited SSW is required.
  • A current LCSW-C or equivalent clinical license in social work is required.
  • A minimum of three years of post-masters social work practice experience, with at least one/two years of experience in an integrated behavioral health setting, is preferred.
  • Excellent clinical and teaching skills are required.
  • Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds.
  • Supports and enhances the sense of belonging and success of students from traditionally marginalized populations.
  • Experience as a field instructor or agency supervisor is highly desirable.
  • Experience providing social work supervision, teaching, or training is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the Maryland and D.C. area human services systems and agencies is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and knowledge of instructional technology are desired.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Primary Location: University of Maryland, Baltimore/School of Social Work, Baltimore, MD, 21201 (10% or less travel is required)
