Hamilton's Academic Resource Centers provide individualized peer tutoring programs to support the academic work of all students on campus. The Writing Center (WC) and Quantitative and Symbolic Reasoning Center (QSR) are responsible for administering peer tutoring, facilitating student workshops, providing faculty development opportunities, and offering other events related to their missions.

The Fellow provides leadership and programming to support equity and inclusion in the WC and QSR. One Fellow will be hired to work in each Center. While the Fellows will work primarily within their home Center and report to that Center's Director, they will also work with one another on projects that span the equity and inclusion missions of both Centers. Additionally, Fellows will work closely with the Director of Opportunity Programs (OP) to build a strong connection between new and returning OP students and sources of academic support.

This is a one-year (August-June), benefited position on a 65% schedule (1,200 hours) with potential for renewal after one year. The Fellow will work approximately 30 hours/week on a regular schedule. This will include some evening and/or weekend hours. This is a nonexempt position with a pay range of $23.00 to $25.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • In consultation with the Directors, further develop the WC/QSR as inclusive spaces that demonstrate a commitment to antiracist and socially just practices
  • Build meaningful mentoring relationships with OP students by serving as their academic coach
  • Support tutoring for OP students in the WC and QSR
  • Participate in training and mentoring tutors in best practices to support belonging, equity, and inclusion
  • Work with the Director of OP, Center Directors and Faculty to identify OP students in need of additional support and to facilitate early intervention and ongoing supplemental instruction within the WC/QSR
  • Assist Center Directors with assessment of DEI program effectiveness and activities related to DEI goals
  • Assist the Director of OP with data collection and NYS reporting
