Job Summary/Responsibilities | This student will the point person for students in the Osprey Community Transition program and for interns from Project Search. The Access Assistant will oversee our Adopt-A-Bed program, ensuring appropriate access to students, student services and academic units. The student will be knowledgeable about the wide variety of services available to students and help educate and refer students in need to services on campus such as the Lend-A-Wing, Osprey PERCH/ Student Ombuds, SAS, SOS, etc. The Access Assistant will help ensure students with intellectual differences or that are seeking occupational training have a positive and fulfilling experience in the Ogier Gardens. The position will also research horticultural therapy best practices and lead a workshop in the garden with this theme. In addition, the student will help with all UNF Ogier Gardens physical tasks, including but not limited to: introducing yourself as staff to each person who enters the Gardens and guiding volunteers. Students may assist with marketing and outreach efforts such as at UNF Market Days, teaching gardening workshops, create nutritional and cooking handouts, as well as promoting student health through gardening. |
Required Qualifications | • Must be a current UNF student who is eligible for and accepts Federal Work Study (FWS) funding, Please email [email protected] from your email to find out if you are eligible. • Communicate effectively with staff and public in writing or verbally • CPR & First Aid Certified (can be accomplished within first 60 days of work, SWC offers for free). • Comfortable in nature and enjoys sharing the natural world with others. • A Willingness to adapt; be self-motivated and hard working. • Computer knowledge and experience (Microsoft Office, Adobe, Publisher, Facebook, etc.). • Can effectively problem solve and multi-task, work independently and as a team player. • Remain calm and think logically, especially during first-aid and emergency circumstances. |
Preferred Qualifications | Preferred Major: Any, but Psychology, Social Work, Nutrition, Public Health, and Education may be particularly interested. • Have organic farming experience at both mechanized/field production scale and/or hand/garden scale and experience with appropriate tools. • Have a commitment to and enjoyment of working with students. • Work well in a collaborative and team environment. • Have a positive, enthusiastic, and supportive attitude. • Have building, maintenance, and general handy-person skills. • Have knowledge of and interest in human nutrition. • Enjoy preparing and eating fresh fruits, herbs and vegetables. |
