Description of Work
The Family-School Consultant will be an instrumental part of a research project testing a family-school partnership intervention delivered via distance technology. The Family-School Consultant will be responsible for implementing a conjoint consultation approach to assist parents and teachers in providing effective behavioral interventions for kindergarten-6th grade students with social-emotional and behavioral concerns that interfere with learning. The position requires using distance technology (e.g., Zoom) to provide consultation services to teachers and parents of students in rural Appalachia, but some travel may be required. Some early morning and evening availability may be required. We are seeking qualified applicants for this full-time, ten-month position (August-May).

Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in educational psychology, special education, psychology, education, or a related field plus one year of experience working with children with behavioral challenges, working in schools or working with parents/guardians of children with special or behavioral health needs, and engaging in behavioral or collaborative problem-solving or delivering evidence-based behavioral interventions. Ability to work independently and with attention to detail essential. Must have excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have a master’s degree in educational psychology, special education, psychology, education, or a related field. Experience conducting applied behavior analysis (ABA), developing evidence-based behavioral interventions plans, working in rural communities, and professional experience in schools or clinical settings, preferably working with teachers and parents. Knowledge of: special education laws and procedures; research methods; and ethical research practices. Ability to work with economically diverse families in rural communities (e.g., rural Appalachia).
