The Department of Psychology in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences is seeking a Family Interventionist.

This is a full-time position in the ENRICH/Family Check-Up Heart Study, which aims to support expectant parents in Allegheny County in developing healthy heart habits to prevent heart disease as well as preparing for the arrival of their baby. Pregnant women will be enrolled in the ENRICH study and will initially receive the prenatal version of the Family Check-Up (FCU) and then continue working with the FCU in the post-partum period through child age two. Families will be enrolled from birthing hospitals and agencies serving pregnant people and young children at risk for health disparities (e.g., Family Centers, prenatal clinics, WIC, pediatric primary care, Healthy Start) and typically will be seen at their home in-person or through telehealth. Duties will include learning and applying the Family Check-Up, an evidence-based parenting intervention that incorporates motivational interviewing, family systems, and parent skills training. In addition, this interventionist will deliver heart-health specific modules tailored for pregnant parents. The individual would have a caseload of approximately 10-15 families each week, averaging 45-50 new families each year. The incumbent will also be responsible for attending individual and group supervision and staff meetings, collaborating with other intervention staff and community partners, as well as appointment scheduling and record-keeping.



Job Summary

Performs psychosocial and neuropsychological assessments of patients and families as well as project-directed qualitative interviews; presents assessment findings. Provides referrals for patients, screens individuals for research registry eligibility, develops research project materials, and provides crisis intervention counseling. Serves as a resource and assists in obtaining research grants and funding.


Essential Functions 

Individual in this position must be able to use a telephone, must be able to make weekly home visits to families, must be able to effectively utilize zoom for virtual sessions with families, and must be able to communicate verbally. Individual must have a valid driver's license and reliable access to a personal vehicle for the purpose of conducting home visits.
Individual must be able to utilize Microsoft Office, TEAMS, Word, and Excel.


Physical Effort 

Must be able to travel to off-campus locations on a regular basis.
