Qualifications:
SPSY/COUN 732-Assessment of Social and Emotional Functioning- 3 units
Tuesdays 6:30PM-9:15PM
The student will develop an understanding of the assessment of social, emotional and behavioral skills in the schools. The format of the course will be lecture, class discussion, case study presentations and lab work with test instruments. The course objectives are to provide the following:
A viable framework for understanding assessment of social, emotional and behavioral skills in the schools.
Familiarity with the impact of culture, race, socioeconomic status, gender, and age on social, emotional and behavioral skills development and assessment.
Beginning professional skills in the administration, scoring and interpretation of a battery of social, emotional and behavioral assessment instruments.
Beginning professional skills in the integration of results from an assessment into a complete psycho-diagnostic report.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have M.S., M.A., or Ph.D. in School Psychology and be a credentialed school psychologist in the state of California with a minimum of 3 years experience as a practicing school psychologist. Faculty who teach any PPS specialization course will need to have work in prek-12 school settings in the last three years.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in School Psychology is highly desirable. A successful record of teaching experience at the graduate level. Current license in Marriage & Family Therapy, Professional Clinical Counseling, Educational Psychology, or Psychology and/or National Certification in School Psychology from the National Association of School Psychologists. A demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, multicultural/international competence, social justice, clinical expertise, and familiarity with counseling & psychological theory and practice.
